Junior Competitions

Our Junior competitions offer a fun and inclusive pathway for both male and female players to develop their love for the game! All competitions are held at our home courts - the Ballina Indoor Sports Centre - affectionately known as the BISC.

Starting out

Aussie Hoops (Kindergarten - Year 2) Mondays 4-5pm@the BISC REGISTER HERE

Aussie Hoops

  • The perfect place to start for our youngest players
  • Focused on fun, friends and skill development through drills and games 
  • Programs open for registrations each term
  • Players are placed in small groups according to age and/or skill. Our youngest group is mixed boys and girls with groups splitting as their skills develop
  • Groups are rotated around coaches. Players can play with their friends
  • Players can order an Aussie Hoops shirt with their name on the back OR wear any comfortable clothes they like
  • Costs $90 per term + option to order training shirt/ball package
  • No previous experience required! 

Miniball (Year 2 - Year 4ish) Mondays 5-5.30pm@the BISC REGISTER HERE

  • MiniballThe first stepping stone to playing competition!
  • Separate Boys and Girls competitions
  • Focused on fun, friends and skill development through modified games (halfcourt, smaller hoop, smaller teams)
  • Programs open for registrations each term
  • Players are placed in teams on the day. Teams are rotated. Players can play with their friends.
  • Players are loaned a team shirt to wear while playing
  • Focused on learning the rules of competition and preparing for primary school comps
  • Costs $65 per term + option to order training shirt/ball package
  • Players can enrol in both Aussie Hoops and Miniball!

Primary Competitions (Year 3 - 5) Mondays 5-6.30pm@the BISC REGISTER HERE

Primary Competitions

  • Separate Girls and Boys competitions
  • Focused on friendly competition, making friends and having fun
  • Programs open for registrations each term
  • Players are placed in teams. New players will be placed with friends.
  • Players are loaned a team shirt to wear for the duration of the competition.
  • Competitions are focused on learning how to be a good team player while developing individual skills
  • Costs $80 comp fees (1 term) + annual membership fee
  • Leads to representative basketball programs (NJL, Shield)

High School Comps 

6-7 Comp

Year 6 to 7 Competition Tuesdays from 4pm@the BISC REGISTER HERE

  • Separate Girls and Boys competitions
  • Focused on friendly competition, making friends and having fun
  • Program offered only over Summer (Term 4 & Term 1)
  • Players represent their 2026 high school
  • Players are loaned a team shirt to wear for the duration of the competition.
  • Competitions are focused on fun and making friendships
  • Costs $165 comp fees (2 terms) + annual membership fee
  • No previous experience required!

Year 7&8, 9&10+ Competitions Tuesdays from 4.45pm@the BISC REGISTER HERE

HS BoysHS Girls

  • Separate Girls and Boys comps
  • Focused on friendly competition
  • Program offered over Summer (Term 4 & Term 1) and Winter (Term 2 & 3)
  • Players placed on balanced teams. New players will be placed with friends.
  • All players register in their school year eg Year 8 register in Year 7&8 competition, players may be invited to play out of age
  • Players are loaned a team shirt to wear
  • Focused on learning individual and team skills, playing posititions and team strategies
  • Players should have played 'backyard' basketball and know basic rules
  • Costs $165 comp fees (2 terms) + annual membership fee
  • Leads to representative basketball programs (NJL, Shield)

Junior League (Boys) & Pathways to Seniors (Girls) Tuesdays from 6.30pm@the BISC REGISTER HERE

  • For players 16 - 23 years
  • Focused on friendly social competition
  • Offered over Summer (Term 4 & Term 1) and Winter (Term 2 & 3)
  • Players may enter their own team with a minimum of 7 players
  • Players may enter as a smaller group or individuals and teams will be created where space permits
  • Players are loaned a team shirt to wear 
  • Players should have played basketball before and know basic rules
  • Costs $165 comp fees (2 terms) + annual membership fee
  • Female players will be assisted with transition to Senior womens comp by being mentored on a womens team
  • Male players will be assisted with transition to Senior mens comp Div 1 or 2
  • Leads to representative basketball programs (NJL, Sunshine)
